Bacteria Thwarts Tooth Decay

SWEDEN: Researchers are using a genetically-modified bacteria to kill cavity causing Streptococcus mutans. A team from Huddinge Hospital, Stockholm, led by Lennart Hammer-ström, modified Lactobacillus zeae to create antibodies that can stop Streptococcus mutans from sticking to the teeth. In trials with rats, GM L. zeae reduced tooth decay. The bacteria is not yet approved for human trials....
